Construction continues on Kings Island’s newest thrill ride, WindSeeker.
The 301-foot tall tower that spins riders 30 stories above the park is expected to make its debut when the park opens for the 2011 season on April 30.
Riders, seated in two-person swings, begin rotating in a circular motion as the swings ascend the tower. At the tower’s peak, the swings reach speeds of up to 30 mph, flaring out 45 degrees from the tower.
The ride accommodates 64 riders per ride cycle. Riders must be at least 48-inches tall to ride.
“The addition of WindSeeker reflects our commitment to providing our guests with world-class thrills, fun and fantastic family entertainment,” Kings Island vice-president and general manager Greg Scheid said. “Soaring 300 feet above Kings Island will provide an exciting ride experience for our guests.”
WindSeeker will be located in the Coney Mall section of the park near the Vortex ride exit. The $5 million ride is manufactured by the Dutch-based Mondial company. Check out more construction photos at Kings Island’s Insider blog here and here.
