Trailing the heels of its recent “Excellent with Distinction” rating by the state, Mason City Schools has earned another feather in its cap.
The Ohio Auditor of State office has awarded Mason its Auditor of State Award for excellence in financial record-keeping.
Christa Criddle, the Cincinnati regional liaison for Auditor of State Dave Yost, presented the Mason City Schools Board of Education with the award at its Sept. 12 meeting.
“You have clean, accountable, and efficient government in Mason City Schools,” said Criddle.
The award is bestowed on local governments and school districts upon completion of an audit that meet the criteria for a “clean” audit report. Among the criteria considered are filing timely reports and a lack of errors, citations, questioned costs and deficiencies.
Mason City Schools Treasurer Richard Gardner accepted the award and gave credit to the district for its financial diligence.
“It’s a group effort to carefully watch our spending,” he said. “Everyone in our district should be commended for producing outstanding academic results that rank us as 6th in the state academically, while spending below the state average, and significantly below our Academic Top 10 peers.”
