The Child Advocacy Center of Warren County honored Mason Schools with its Stewards of Children award this month.
District Associate Superintendent Amy Spicher accepted the award at the center’s Blue Ribbon Nite Gala on Nov. 18 in honor of the district’s recognition of and dedication to protecting youth.
The 11,000-student Warren County school system that is rated among the top academic performers in Ohio became the first Ohio school district this year to require each of its staff to participate in Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children child sexual abuse curriculum.
Stewards of Children is a national sexual abuse prevention program designed for youth-serving organizations. The Child Advocacy Center provided the training for Mason employees.
The district also implemented a Safety Audit Checklist and adopted procedure changes to strengthen its ability to identify and respond to child sexual abuse.
“We appreciate that the Warren County Child Advocacy Center has been a resource for us, and are grateful to work together with them on behalf of children,” said Spicher. “Their training empowers all of us to be able to make a difference in terms of response and intervention – and most importantly, in the lives of potential child victims.”
