The Mason Comets made a strong showing at the Southwest Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Classic this weekend.
The Lady Comets placed runner-up with 338 points to Ursuline Academy’s 460 points.
Girls’ multi-winners included Mason sophomore Zoe Thatcher who repeated in the 200 and 500 freestyle races and won the 1,650 free.
Mason’s Sean Sargent won the boys’ 1-meter event with a score of 474.25 and Edgewood’s Cole Fryman (451.35) finished second. Defending champion Danny Moorehead, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy’s 2011 Division II state champion, finished third at 446.25.
Girls’ defending champion Maddie Sewell (484.90) of Mason and last year’s runner-up, Emily Mosher (483.45) of St. Ursula, were upstaged by Centerville’s Morgan Mullins (488.50), who won a close contest that was decided on the last dives. Sewell led four Mason divers in the top 12.
