Kings Island’s Invertigo roller coaster is getting a fresh coat of paint just in time for the Mason amusement’s park’s milestone 40th anniversary season.
The ride’s signature red and yellow color scheme will now sport an aqua-colored track with royal blue supports.
The coaster, originally named Face/Off, is the only face-to-face inverted roller coaster in the Midwest, according to Kings Island. It’s given more than 7 million rides since it opened in 1999.
Riders face each other in seats that allow their feet to dangle. The coaster shoots them up a 138-foot hill with enough momentum to coast at 55 miles per hour through three inversions forward and then backward.
In other park news, Kings Island announced this week that The Crypt will be replaced by an “all-new Halloween Haunt experience.” The park also plans to release a new mobile app prior to the season’s open.
Kings Island opens its 40th anniversary season April 28. Daily operation begins May 11 and the all new Soak City Waterpark opens May 26, free with park admission.
