Kings High School will host a double-header on Saturday, Aug. 26 as part of the 15th annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.
The Showdown, billed as the nation’s biggest and longest running high school football showcase of its kind, features 42 schools playing 21 games over a 10-day period to kick off the prep football seasons in Ohio and Kentucky.
Moeller will play its season opener against Gilman School (Baltimore, Md.) in a game televised on ESPNU at 7 p.m. that day, according to a news release from ESPN.
“I’m glad our kids have an opportunity to play in it,” Moeller coach John Rodenberg said. “They love it…it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Moeller was also on ESPNU in 2010 when it defeated Braxton Miller-led Huber Heights Wayne 35-28 in a memorable Showdown game at St. Xavier.
The game is the second of a doubleheader at Kings that day featuring the ESPN High School Kickoff Classic. Trotwood-Madison plays University School (Fla.) at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
Moeller, which was 9-4 and a Division I regional finalist last season, returns several talented players including senior linebacker Shane Jones (Michigan State verbal commitment), senior offensive lineman Alex Gall (University of Miami), senior running back Keith Watkins, senior quarterback Spencer Iacovone and senior tight end Evan Jansen.
Moeller is ranked No. 19 nationally by MaxPreps.com.
Kings is at 5500 Columbia Road, Kings Mills. For tickets, go to skylinecrosstownshowdown.com
