Posted by rrichardson July 31st, 2012, 10:09 am

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

A smog alert is in effect today for Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky with a muggy high temperature expected to hit 93 degrees.

The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency says it expects levels of ozone in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” range on the Air Quality Index.

Children, the elderly and those with respiratory issues should limit activity outdoors. Avoid unnecessary trips in your vehicle and refuel only after 8 p.m. if possible.

There’s a slight, 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. as a cold front rolls into the region from the west. Widespread hazardous weather is not expected.

The overnight low will be 67.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny with a high near 89.

By Thursday, the mercury will heat up to a toasty 94.
