Going green in Mason just got easier.
The city began delivering 9,000 larger recycling carts to Mason residents over the weekend.
As part of a new two-year contract with Rumpke approved by city council in March, residents who recycle will receive a 65-gallon container with a lid. The previous contract with Rumpke offered 18-gallon recycling containers.
There is no rate increase for the larger capacity bins, said Jennifer Trepal, Mason’s public information officer.
“Mason has a significant recycling rate, with 60-70 percent of residents recycling. The rate for the larger recycling cart with lid was an attractive option to encourage Mason residents to continue their recycling efforts,” she said.
The city has begun delivering the larger bins to customers who did not opt out of the new cart by the July 31 deadline. The older bins do not need to be returned and can be used for indoor recycling or storage, said Trepal.
