Darryl Johnson’s fancy footwork on the gridiron Friday in Mason’s match against Glen Este hasn’t gone unnoticed.
The senior running back has been nominated for this week’s Cincinnati Bengals Ohio National Guard Cincinnati High School Player of the Week on bengals.com.
Johnson, who is 5 feet 10 and 205 pounds, ran for 209 yards on 20 carries with three touchdowns to help Mason improve to 2-1. The Comets stormed past the Trojans, 27-3.
Johnson rushed for 1,344 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Comets last season, and had 12 receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns. He was first-team all-Greater Miami Conference last season.
If named Player of the Week, Johnson will have the chance to be recognized at Paul Brown Stadium on Dec. 9 when the Bengals take on the Dallas Cowboys. He will also be presented with an award from the Ohio National Guard at the school.
Voting ends at 5 p.m. Friday.
