Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

It will be a wet and cold day with rain showers and temperatures struggling to reach the low 50s.

Rain is likely after 2 p.m. and again after 8 p.m., just in time for Friday night football games, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The overnight low will fall to 44 degrees.

Saturday will be just as dreary with rain in the morning and then clouds until nightfall. The high will only reach 57 degrees with winds gusting up to 15 mph.

Saturday night will be quite cold with the low dipping to 39 degrees.

Sunday looks to be the best day of the weekend, with plenty of sun and a high of 66.

Next week, Indian Summer will be in full force as temperatures shoot into the 70s from a burst of warm air coming up from the south.

It will be dry and sunny with the mercury reaching 77 degrees by Tuesday – a good 15 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year.
