Four Mason teens are among Ursuline Academy students honored by the College Board.
Megan Darlington is among 177 Southwest Ohio students and 16,000 students nationally to be named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
Semifinalists – who represent less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school seniors – are now in competition for 83,000 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring to finalists.
Candace Borders was named a National Achievement semifinalist. She is among 3,100 students to receive the honor. The program recognizes outstanding black American high school students.
Holly Nurre and Alexandra George were named Commended Students. About 34,000 students in the nation are named Commended Students for demonstrating strong academic achievement and promise for admission to selective colleges.
Commended Students make up the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students who take the SAT test each year.
The students were among 1.5 million juniors from 22,000 high schools who entered the competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
