Looking for at least an inch of snow on the ground this morning to make a white Christmas?
Don’t count on it.
This year’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with highs in the low 40s, according to the National Weather Service.
That will give way to a rain/snow mix starting Tuesday night that could turn into up to an inch of snow Wednesday night.
But historically, we’ve only awakened Christmas morning to at least one inch of snow on the ground 16 times since 1916, the service said.
That’s only about 17 percent of the time. During the last 30 years, we’ve awakened to a White Christmas only six times, or about 20 percent.
