Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:
High winds howled overnight, gusting up to 60 mph as rain pelted down across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
No injuries or major damages were reported, but there is are some power outages, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. More than 1,100 Duke Energy customers are without power, mostly in Boone and Hamilton counties.
It’s 44 degrees this morning at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Winds have calmed to 35 mph, but the mercury will free fall today into the 30s by lunchtime as a cold front moves in from the west. Wind chills will be in the 20s.
That is a major change from a sun-splashed high of 60 degrees on Monday, just eight degrees shy of the record on that date, set in 1948, said meteorologist Andy Latto.
Today will be dramatically different with snow showers falling off and on between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. No accumulation is expected.
Later, it will be mostly cloudy and bitterly cold with the overnight low plunging to 17. Wind chills could fall into the single digits.
The cold blast will stick around through Thursday. It will be mostly sunny Wednesday and Thursday as high temperatures remain in the 30s.
Normally, the high temperature is around 44, and the overnight low is 27, Latto said.
By early Friday, we will see a wintry mix of rain and snow that could switch over to sleet. It will be mostly cloudy by Friday afternoon with a high of 46 degrees.
The overnight low will fall into the 30s. Weekend temperatures will hover in the 40s with plenty of sun.
By Sunday, we will be flirting with 50 degrees as the high soars to 48.
