Region under flood watch as rain lingers

Posted by rrichardson March 18th, 2013, 8:46 am

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

A flood watch is up across the entire Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region until 8 p.m.

Anywhere from 1-2 inches of widespread rain could soak us by tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Flooding could develop on roads and rivers and creeks because the ground already is saturated from recent rainfall and melting snow.

Standing water on roads and the heavy rain already has lead to several accidents. Authorities closed westbound Interstate 74 at the Harrison/Rybolt Road exit in Green Township for about 30 minutes earlier this morning due to a crash with injuries. Another crash, involving two vehicles and a school bus, is slowing the commute on westbound I-275 in Springdale.

It’s 35 degrees this morning at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Later, the mercury will rise to 55 degrees, much closer to normal for this time of year.

The rain should taper off by 8 p.m. A leftover shower or two could fall overnight. The low will fall to 30.

We’ll get the sun back the rest of the week, but daytime temperatures will be in the upper 30s and low 40s, well below normal.

Overnight lows will plunge to the low 20s.  Typically at this point in March, daytime highs hit 54 with overnight lows around 34.

It will be breezy Tuesday and Wednesday with winds blowing 16 to 20 mph.  There’s a 20 percent chance for snow showers Wednesday.
