A Mason teen attending Ursuline Academy is one of 10 southwest Ohio seniors who are receiving a National Achievement scholarship.
Candace Borders is receiving a $2,500, one-time award. She is among 800 students from across the country receiving a scholarship from among 1,300 students named finalists in the competition.
Grants from 34 corporate organizations, professional associations, and the National Merit Scholarship Corp. funded the scholarships, which total more than $2 million.
More than 160,000 students entered the 2013 National Achievement Scholarship competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as high school juniors.
Last September 1,600 were named semifinalists, with 1,300 advancing to the finalist level from which the scholarship recipients were selected.
