Dump the pump.
That’s the message the nation’s public transit agencies and environmental and conservation groups want to bring to people Thursday.
The American Public Transportation Association, the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council are organizing the eighth annual National Dump the Pump Day encouraging people to ride public transit.
Cincinnati’s Metro bus agency wants people to “Like” its Facebook page and pledge to “Dump the Pump” Thursday for a chance to win a free 30-day rolling pass.
Public transit supporters tout cost savings that can be obtained by taking public transit, forgoing costs for purchasing fuel, time spent waiting in traffic and vehicle maintenance. Reducing vehicle miles could also help reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.
