John Johnston reports:
A grand jury has decided not to charge a store clerk who fatally shot an unarmed man who entered a Pleasant Ridge grocery wearing a motorcycle helmet on Aug. 4, officials announced Tuesday.
The clerk, who Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters declined to name, shot Omar Magdy Abouelalla, 22, of Mason, inside LM&N Unlimited Supermarket at 5640 Montgomery Road. Abouelalla was pronounced dead at the scene.
A surveillance video showed Abouelalla enter the store wearing a helmet. He lowered the visor and opened the gate to enter the employee-only area behind the counter. The clerk then shot him.
“As it stands today, there is nothing to suggest it was anything but self-defense,” Deters said.
The two men were the only ones inside the store when the shooting occurred.
Abouelalla had no criminal record.
