Every Mason student started school on the right foot and with the right school supplies – thanks to generous Mason Schools Foundation donors and volunteers.
The Mason Schools Foundation provided school supplies to nearly 250 Mason City Schools students this year. This is the fifth consecutive year for the school supply project, and the Foundation has supported over 1000 students with their supplies since 2009.
“We have received incredible support from our community and area businesses including the Mason Kiwanis, Walmart, Walgreens and many donations from local citizens. We were amazed by the generosity of our community once again,” said Cynthia Satterthwaite, who chaired the drive.
On Aug. 14, the Mason Central gym was abuzz with an army of student and adult volunteers who filled the district’s neediest students supply lists. Several of the student volunteers have been doing this for five years, including Claire Wilson, an incoming Mason Middle School eighth grader.
“I love doing this every year. I work with my mom [Beth Wilson] and we look for great deals all summer. It just all comes together at the end when we’re able to put the supplies together for our classmates,” she said.
