John Kiesewetter reports:
Mason’s Brant Daugherty paid the price for going first on the “Dancing with the Stars” season premiere.
The judges gushed over his cha-cha-cha with Peta Murgatroyd, then went conservative on their scores, since they were the first couple on the dance floor. Daugherty’s safe middle-of-the pack 22 ended up fourth on the night.
Len Goodman said: “That was fabulous!”
Bruno Tonioli: “Very hot stuff, and very easy on the eyes…. A sizzling teaser of things to come.”
Carrie Ann Inaba: “You guys look fantastic together. I think this chemistry is going to be fun to watch.”
Before they danced, ABC showed Peta flirting with Daugherty, 28, a 2004 Mason High School graduate best known for ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars,” the first time they met to rehearse.
Daugherty said after their performance that he was pleased with their sex appeal: “We said from the beginning — if we can make everybody cheer, and my mom cringe, we’ve done our job here.” His mother, Mary Beth Daugherty, was in the studio audience with his sister and brother.
Huge “DWTS” fan and local ballroom dancer Sue Gilkey emailed this comment to me: “I AM VERY IMPRESSED with this young man! I do not watch the show he stars in. But does he have personality! Charisma. Great smile. And he had great rhythm. He was up there with some of the best celebrities who have been on the show… He is going to be fun to watch. And let’s face it, Peta is not bad either!”
One celebrity will be eliminated next Monday, when viewers’ votes are combined with the judge scores.
The judges ranking tonight was:
