Calling all loudmouths: Kings Island is searching for ear-splitting shriekers in celebration of its new record-breaking roller coaster Banshee.
The Mason amusement park will hold its “Scream Like a Banshee” on Fridays through the end of its Halloween Haunt season.
Intrepid yelpers can sign up in Action Zone near construction of the new coaster to compete head-to-head with other wailers. Park officials will use a decibel reader to determine the winner in each round.
Contestants with the most sonic screams have the chance to win passes to be among the first guests to ride the new Banshee coaster when it opens in 2014.
The $24 million coaster — the world’s longest inverted steel coaster — will hurl riders through 4,124 feet of track and seven inversions at stomach-churning speeds up to 68 miles per hour.
All contestants will receive a “Scream Like a Banshee” t-shirt. Round winners will advance to the finals on Oct. 26, where the grand prize winner will receive a trip for two to Los Angeles, Calif., tickets for Knott’s Berry Farm and $1,000 cash.
Registration opens at 6 p.m. each Friday on a first-come, first-served basis for competition slots. Scream times are held on the hour between 8-11 p.m. The contest is open to park guests ages 18 or older.
