Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America recently announced plans to invest $70 million in its Mason and Maysville, Ky. facilities.
The company plans to invest the money in upgrading its equipment and assembly lines at the two plants to better produce high-efficiency alternators and electric power steering products.
“The investment we are making in our Mason and Maysville facilities will strengthen our competitiveness and expand our business scale in the U.S. by increasing our production capacity,” Mike DeLano, the company’s executive vice president and sales group president, said in a press release.
Production of the high-efficiency alternators is expected to launch in January, followed by production of motor control units used in electric power steering in October.
The company says the improvements will allow it to increase production volumes for both products to 1.3 million units by 2016.
MEAA, an affiliate company of the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, employs about 3,600 at 50 locations across North America.
