John Kiesewetter reports:
Mason’s Brant Daugherty’s contemporary dance inspired by his late father wowed the “Dancing with the Stars” judges Monday. He advanced to dance another week — but not singer Christina Milian, who in a shock was sent home despite getting a perfect 10 from one judge tonight.
Peta Murgatroyd looks disappointed at the judges’ scores for their salsa last week.
When the celebs were asked to recall the “most memorable year of their life,” Daugherty recalled how his father David died of lymphoma in 2009, a year after his dad helped him move to Los Angeles. David Daugherty, an art teacher at Mason Middle School, was 57.
Brant recalled sitting in his dad’s car, at age 3, and saying: “Dad, I want to be an actor.” And he said: “OK, believe in yourself, and work hard, and you’ll get there,” Brant said on the ABC show tonight.
Judge Len Goodman called his contemporary dance with Peta Murgatroyd “terrific.” Carrie Ann Inaba said “it was breath-taking.” Bruno Tonioli praised his “dedication and passion…. You have no fear.”
They gave him 27 (of 30) points, which tied him for second with two others. Cincinnati ballroom dancer Sue Gilkey emailed to say Brant did an “awesome… very emotional dance. Each week he has surprised me and once again, the judges were impressed as well,” she said.
Corbin Bleu and Milian led the night with 28, and each got a perfect 10 from one judge. But it didn’t help Milian, one of the best dancers this season, who was voted out when judges scores were combined with viewers’ votes. (Really? Viewers kept Leah Remini and Bill Engvall, and voted Christina out? )
Daugherty entered the night with 21 points from judges for his shirtless salsa last week. Here is the ranking from tonight:
28 – Christina Milian (eliminated), Corbin Bleu
27 – Brant Daugherty, Jack Osbourne, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
26 – Amber Riley
24 - Bill Engvall
22 – Leah Remini
