Mason Library accepting registrations for Day at Hogwarts event

Harry PotterThe Mason Public Library will recreate the magical world of Harry Potter with its Day at Hogwarts event.

Registrations are currently being accepted for the free program, which takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at the library, 200 Reading Road.

The day begins with the traditional Hogwart’s sorting assembly in which students break off for activities in potions, wand-making and Hogwart’s trivia.

The program is a popular one, said children’s librarian Alice Beresford.  Space is limited to 56 participants in grades 3-6, so she recommends registering early.

Snacks and drinks are provided; participants need to bring a sack lunch.  To register, call the Mason Library at 513-398-2711.

Mason Library to offer double-feature

Skip the cinemas and head to the Mason Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 22 for a free double-feature.

The library will feature two flicks that day: The Dark Knight, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., and The Avengers, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both films are rated PG-13.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets, snacks and drinks. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cincinnati State to hold informational session at Mason Library

Representatives from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College will hold an informational session on Monday, July 2 at the Mason Public Library.

The free program, which takes place from 6-8 p.m., will provide information on the college’s new Middletown campus opening this fall. Questions will be taken at the end of the session.

The campus will offer co-op programs for students and businesses in fields ranging from humanities and science, business technologies, health and public safety and its Center for Innovative Technologies.

Mason Library offers therapy dogs, teen lounge on Saturday

The Mason Public Library will hold two events for Mason youth on Saturday.

Children will have the opportunity to practice their reading skills before a four-legged audience. Several therapy dogs will be available from 10-11 a.m. for five-minute reading sessions.

The TEENS Second Saturday Lounge event is set for 1 – 4 p.m. Open to students in grades 7-12, the free event offers a cool and quiet lounge atmosphere for teens with wi-fi access available.

The library’s Miss Alice will be on-hand for help with research and reading recommendations. Food and drink are permitted.

Both events are free and open to the public. The library is at 200 Reading Road and can be reached at 513-398-2711.

Register for free basic computer training classes in Mason

The Warren County Career Center will offer free basic computer training classes in Mason.

The classes, scheduled to begin in May at the Mason Public Library, are offered in partnership with Connect Ohio’s statewide Every Citizen Online broadband training project.  Registration opens for the Mason classes on April 16.

More than 16,000 adults have participated in the training program since its launch in December 2010.  The goal is to train 200,000 Ohioans by the program’s completion in late 2012.

The program includes a basic introduction to computers and the internet and the benefits of using both.

In addition to Mason, classes are also being offered at the Warren County Career Center in Lebanon (February), the Salem Township Library in Morrow (March) and the Franklin Public Library in Franklin (April).

Library to host seminars on Social Security

The Mason Public Library will hold two seminars on Social Security on Wednesday, June 29th. Seminars are from 1-4pm and 6-8pm.

This free event is presented by Premier Living Social Security Consulting with Jim Blair and Marc Kiner. Bring your questions and learn about strategies to maximize your benefits. Registration is required; call 513-398-2711 to register.

Refreshments provided by Kidd Coffee and the Mason Public Library.  The library is located at 200 Reading Road.

Mason Library to hold free Teen Movie Night on Friday

The Mason Public Library will hold a Teen Movie Night at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21.

The free event, geared towards students in grades 7-12, will feature Warner Bros.’ summer blockbuster film Inception (PG-13, 120 minutes), starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page.

Teens are asked to bring their own snacks and refreshments and blankets or pillows for floor seating.
