Free healthy pancake sampling Saturday

PancakesLive Well in Mason is offering a healthy twist on a traditional breakfast favorite.

The Mason Community Center will host a free pancake tasting event from 9-11 a.m. Saturday.  Samples include banana and oat, buckwheat and gluten- and dairy-free recipes.

The event is free and open to the community.  Live Well in Mason is a partnership of the Mason Community Center and TriHealth.

Mason offering Teen Spring Break Fitness Camp

Young teens can learn healthy exercises that can be used throughout their lives during spring break at the Mason Community Center.

The center is offering Teen Spring Break Fitness Camp March 25-28 at the arts center, 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road. It is targeted to those ages 10-15 and meets from noon to 1:45 p.m. each day.

Participants will use several areas of the community center as well as neighboring parks for the program. Those attending should dress for the weather.

Cost is $52 for premier members, $62 for basic members, $78 for Mason residents, and $93 for non-residents.

Youth drama program helps build character

The Mason Community Center will debut a drama program for children this month that emphasizes character and skills-building for children ages 6-10.

Drama Kids International classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Fridays from Jan. 18 through Feb. 22.

The developmental program uses drama activities to build creative thinking and literacy skills, in addition to positive social skills such as leadership, teamwork, confidence and public speaking.

Cost is $85 for community center premier members; $100 for basic members; $125 for Mason residents and $150 for non-residents.

Training program for youth athletes kicks off Tuesday

The Mason Community Center will launch a youth strength and agility program Tuesday.

The program for children ages 9-14 is designed to increase their athletic ability in the off-season by working on strength, speed and endurance.

The program meets from 6-6:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursdays through Feb. 1 at the Mason Community Center, 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road.

Cost is $48 for community center premier members; $57 for basic members; $72 for Mason residents and $86 for non-residents.

Mason Community Center offering CCW classes

The Mason Community Center will offer classes this month for those interested in applying for a concealed carry permit.

The 12-hour, one-day class, which will be held at an off-site location, will cover Ohio gun laws and gun safety.  Participants will receive a concealed carry weapon class certificate, which can then be presented as part of an application for a state-issued CCW permit.

The class is open to Ohio residents ages 21 and older, who have no felony convictions or charges and who have been an Ohio resident for at least 30 days and a county resident of at least 45 days.

Participants are required to provide their own handgun and ammunition and hearing and eye protection.

Classes are held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 or Jan. 26.  The deadline to enter for the Jan. 12 class is Jan. 5; register for the Jan. 26 class by Jan. 19.

Cost is $90 for community center premier members; $106 for basic members; $116 for Mason residents and $126 for non-residents.

Mason Community Center to launch New Year weight loss challenge

The Mason Community Center will ring in the New Year with a 10-week weight loss challenge.

The center will launch its Empowered to Lose BIG challenge starting Jan. 5.

The program, which is open to community members and non-members, offers weekly weigh-ins, e-newsletters with tips and advice and healthy eating tips from a nutritionist.  Cost for this program is $10.  Those who register by Dec. 22 will receive a free T-shirt.

Free how-to clinics will be held every other Wednesday starting on Jan. 16 with a 45-minute session on “Making Successful Changes.”  Sessions are offered at 11:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the top men and women finishers in three separate categories: most pounds lost, most percent body weight lost and most “pound reward points.”

For an additional cost, participants can meet up to twice weekly with a certified instructor for 45-minute workout sessions.  The classes, which are geared to people of all fitness levels,  meet at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays from Jan. 8 through March 14.

Cost for this 10-week series is $120 for premier members; $142 for basic members; $167 for Mason residents and $192 for non-residents.

Mason Community Center launches new fitness program for seniors

The Mason Community Center is launching a new program for senior citizens.

The national SilverSneakers fitness program is geared towards group retirees or older adults eligible for Medicare.

The program provides a fitness center membership, with customized classes for seniors to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance, along with health education seminars, online support classes and program advisors.

The center will hold a free informational seminar about the program at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Enrollment for the program begins at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at the front entrance desk. The center is at 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road and can be reached at 513-229-8555.

40-plus vendors expected at Mason Shop Local event

Shop LocalThe Mason Community Center is making it easier for residents to support local businesses — and get a head start on holiday shopping.

More than 40 vendors are expected to take part in a “Shop Local” event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the center.

Area merchants and home sales representatives will feature their services and wares in the cash-and-carry event. Products include: Tupperware, Jamberry Nails, Christmas ornaments, children’s books, soaps and lotions and jewelry, among others.

The free event is open to the community. Tours of the community center will also be offered.

Kids & Family Expo to be held Saturday in Mason

Kids & Family Expo
The Mason Community Center will host a Kids & Family Expo from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday.

More than 40 booths will be set up featuring information on children’s and after-school enrichment programs, private schools, day care facilities and pediatricians in the area.

The free event will also feature live entertainment and give-aways. Tours of the Mason Community Center will be available during and after the event.

The expo is sponsored by Cincinnati Family magazine in partnership with Cincinnati Family magazine, Group Health Trihealth Physician Partners, Kroger Comforts for Baby and the Deerfield Towne Center.
