Straits of Malacca, the Malaysian restaurant in Mason, has been in business for a year, and they’re putting on a street bazaar this Sunday from 3-8 p.m. to celebrate.
“Taste of Malaysia” is a night bazaar or “pasar malam”, that will include food, vendors and Malaysian performances.
There will be a drum demo and a dance demo, and a Teh Tarik competition.
Teh Tarik is the “pulling” of tea. Malaysia cold tea, like its Thai counterpart, is made with sweetened condensed milk. It’s mixed by pouring it between two containers. This has been heightened into an art, with tea pullers doing it behind their back, while dancing, to music. I don’t know how many tea pullers there are in Cincinnati, but they’re a staging a competition between them. That’s at 4 p.m.
The food served at the festival includes:
- Roti, dal and assam fish
- Nyonya Kuih (Malaysian cakes)
- Char Kueh Teow
- Economy noodles with chicken curry
- Beef and chicken satay
- Ayan Percik (Malaysian BBQ)
- Teh Tarik & Kope
- Bubble Tea and Ais Kacang
It all happens in the parking lot of Straits of Malacca, 202 W. Main Street, Mason from 3-8 p.m.
