Prom day extra special for these students

It’s prom day for Lebanon High School senior Joylynn Little .

Like millions of other teenage girls across America, her focus is on her looks. Assisted by her classmates, Joylynn fixes her hair atop her pretty face, now lit with happiness.

Her mirror on this special day reflects a prom princess, a purple flower adorning her hair.

“I like the prom,” the 17-year-old says prior to Friday’s fifth annual “Daylight Prom,” for more than 100 area special-needs students.

“My dress is purple and it’s my favorite color,” says Joylynn, who has Down syndrome.

For the first time, the event was held in the high school’s spacious, main gym to accommodate the crowd. Special-needs students – and their families and friends – came from Lebanon and eight other school districts in Warren and Montgomery counties to savor a rare spotlight of pageantry.
