Krystal Eggerding MandapJohn Kiesewetter reports:

Three episodes into “Masterchef,” and we never saw Mason native Krystal Eggerding Mandap identified on the show.

And now we know why:  Producers didn’t feature her story in the preliminary round, as one of the lucky 100 contestants this season, because she didn’t make make the top 36 revealed last night.

Krystal, 31, of West Chester, says she saw herself several times last night, and she’s proud to make it as far as she did. Her email today:

“I only made the top 36, which isn’t too bad out of 30,000 hopefuls, but yes very disappointing. I did see myself a lot last night. They did not do a feature on me, but I was in the front row and the camera was on my face when I was told I had to leave. Of course it was a fun experience and I would do it again if they asked.”

She’s rooting for:

Christine Ha, 32, the blind grad student from Houston.

Anna Rossi, 28 from the husband-wife duo (he was eliminated last night). She’s a pharmaceutical sales rep from Boston.

Frank Mirando, 28, a stockbroker from NY

Scott Little, 38, an interactive producer from Virginia. (Read more about the contestants here. The show airs 9 p.m. Monday-Tuesday on Fox/Channel 19.)

“I got know those contestants fairly well and were all passionate and good people!  Thanks for your support. I have a lot going on since the show, so hopefully this is only the beginning of my journey!” she says.

Krystal, a 1999 Kings High School graduate, quit her food sales job in February to tape the show. She’s working part-time at La Poste Eatery in Clifton.

John Kiesewetter reports:

Cake specialist and blogger Krystal Eggerding Mandap from West Chester Township will be competing in Fox’s “Masterchef” reality show for amateur cooks starting June 4.

Mandap, 31, auditioned in Chicago. She’s a 1999 Kings High School graduate who grew up in the Mason area. She moved to San Diego in 2003, but returned here in 2009 with her husband and two boys. She’s the only local person among the 100 contestants announced by Fox for the third season.

You can see some of her designs on her Krystalcakes Facebook page,  and learn more about her from her 3 boys and a chef  blog.

“Masterchef” will air 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday this summer (Channels 19, 45), following Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen.” Ramsay starting June 4.

Fox says:

Nearly 30,000 hopefuls auditioned at MASTERCHEF’s open casting calls in Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; Savannah, GA; Seattle, WA; and Washington, DC.

“Only the best amateur cooks” were flown to Los Angeles for a chance to compete for the coveted title of MASTERCHEF and the $250,000 grand prize. This season will feature contestants from all walks of life representing 23 states – including a stock broker, a professional opera singer, an emergency physician, a food photographer, a plastic surgeon, as well as the first blind cook to enter the competition – all with the hopes of turning their culinary dream into a reality.

On the season premiere, the hopefuls will prepare their signature dish and present them to the distinguished MASTERCHEF judging panel: Gordon Ramsay (Gordon Ramsay Steak, maze), Joe Bastianich (Del Posto, Eataly) and Graham Elliot (Graham Elliot, Grahamwich). The judges will taste for flavor, originality, creativity and presentation. But most importantly, the amateur cooks must demonstrate a genuine passion for food and a drive to win in order to earn a coveted white apron and move on to the next round.

The auditions continue on Tuesday, June 5 (9:00 PM) as the judges critique the good and the bad and continue to winnow down the competition. On Monday, June 11 (9:00-10:00 PM), the stakes are raised as the 36 remaining hopefuls will be put to the ultimate test in an intense ground beef challenge. By the end of the episode, those who impress the judges will earn a spot in the Top 18 and join the nation’s best crop of amateur cooks in the MASTERCHEF kitchen. Only those who put their best dish forward will move one step closer to becoming a culinary master.
