More than 200 Mason students met this month to launch a yearlong letter-writing project.
The pen pal project teams up Mason Intermediate sixth-graders with Mason Heights second-graders in what teachers are calling a win-win relationship.
“This project has proven to be very successful and rewarding for both age groups,” said Judy Fowler, a language arts teacher at Mason Intermediate.
“It provides the opportunity for the sixth graders to create a mentoring relationship across the district with the second graders, and both groups see an improvement in their writing skills between the first letters and the last.”
And as a bonus, students also gain new friends, adds Fowler.
“I’m excited to meet the second graders and glad to have Anthony [Marra] as my friend,” said sixth-grader Davis Robey. “He is really cool!”
The students plan to celebrate the project at the end of the year with a party.
