Dozens of cancer survivors and their families and friends gathered in Mason last week for the Light the Night walk.
The event, sponsored by the Tri-State/Southern Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, raises funds for cancer research. Mason-based Cintas Corp. was among the event’s top corporate sponsors, raising almost $15,000.
Matt Neitzke, 10, was the honored patient at the Mason walk. The Mason boy was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkins lymphoma in February 2010. He entered into remission in September and recently began his fifth-grade year at Mason Intermediate.
Among other survivors taking part in the event was Joel Brown, of Mason. The 16-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia three years ago. He recently underwent a bone-marrow transplant at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
The Mason walk was held on Sept. 15. A second Cincinnati walk is scheduled for 7 p.m. this evening at Sawyer Point, downtown.
