Snow continues to blanket the Mason area, and is expected to continue through Tuesday morning and afternoon.
A winter storm warning has been issued through midnight and we can expect up to two inches of snow by lunch time and then maybe another two inches before the evening rush hour, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
There is a Level 1 Snow Advisory in effect for neighboring Butler County, meaning roadways are hazardous and motorists are urged to drive cautiously.
“We’re not expecting it to be heavy at any particular time – just a moderate snow throughout the day,” said Dan Hawblitzel, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington. He expects the snow to taper off around the time of the evening rush hour.
Patti Workman, a secretary with Mason Public Works, says city snow plows got a proactive start in Mason early this morning.
“I can see traffic and it seems fine. (Road crew) shifts came in at 3:30 a.m. just in case,” she said.
The high temperature today will be 28 degrees with a low of 21. Mason City Schools has canceled PM kindergarten and afternoon preschool today, Jan. 11.
