Janice Morse reports:
Apparently the thief didn’t have a sweet tooth.
Whoever stole a truckload of Little Debbie snack cakes from Warren County on Friday has apparently ditched the treats. Dozens of brown cardboard boxes packed with Little Debbies were found this afternoon at a business in the 1900 block of Dalton Avenue, police said.
And, alas, “someone left the cake out in the rain,” just as in songstress Donna Summer’s 1978 hit, “MacArthur Park.” Tuesday’s discovery of the dumped boxes followed a rainy Monday. That’s why the goods couldn’t be salvaged, said Warren County sheriff’s Sgt. Brandon Lacy.
Tristate Crime Stoppers contacted Warren County investigators about the discovery of the boxes this afternoon, Lacy said. Then authorities contacted the truck’s owner and verified that the discarded items were his, Lacy said.
Authorities are still searching for the unmarked truck and trailer, which went missing Friday from a parking lot at Shell gas station, 9791 Mason-Montgomery Road, Deerfield Township.
The license plate on the red 2012 Dodge Dually truck is PHV-6854.
The plate on the black 2008 enclosed trailer is TPM-7423.
