The Mason Invitational may not have gone on as scheduled, but Mason boys’ head coach Chip Dobson says all weather aside, the meet delivered in stellar fashion.
“The times in today’s event are times you aren’t going to find in many meets around the state,” Dobson said. “The environment didn’t suffer at all. The place was amped.”Still, few could have been more amped than either Dobson or Mason girls’ head coach Tony Affatato.
Both of their squads won the Mason Invitational, and convincingly. The boys finished with a final score of 180. The girls finished with 183.50.
“I know on the men’s side, we’ve been slowly piecing together the best team we’ve ever witnessed here,” said an elated Dobson. “I can’t say I’m shocked, but we’ve really worked hard and it’s exciting.”
It was all smiles on the girls’ side as well.
“Winning this meet puts us in a really nice situation as we head to the Greater Miami Conference meet,” Affatato said. “We gained confidence going against very good competition, and with a couple of improvements I think we can do some really nice things.”
Mason now prepares for the GMC meet beginning this week. “I feel pretty good going into the GMC,” Dobbs said. “Princeton is really strong. Lakota East, Sycamore – just a ton of good teams in the division. I’m expecting a really competitive event.”
