From Mason girls’ cross country coach Chip Dobson:
The Ladies of Mason traveled south along with several other local cross country teams to one of the biggest, oldest meets in Kentucky. (58th annual) The Trinity Valkyrie meet is held at EP Tom Sawyer Park, the site of the 2012 NCAA National Cross Country Championships.
The meet was loaded with several of Kentucky’s, Indiana’s and Ohio’s top teams. On the girls side the Carmel Greyhounds dominated putting 5 girls in the top 10 spots! They scored just 24 total team points. Far behind, but in 2nd were the Comets of Mason. They were led by two freshman, Ellie Brush and Ailee Henderson, both of who were in the top 35 of this massive race. The race had over 40 teams and 350 racers from 5 states.
The Mason girls were joined by others from Ohio, including Sycamore, Turpin, Colerain and Seton locally and Hilliard Davidson as well.
On the boys side, the top 3 teams were separated by just a few points. The Bombers of St. X had to contend with some of the best teams in the nation, including Brentwood, TN who placed their top 3 runners in the top 3 of the entire race.
St. X had great performances, including state leading times from Michael Hall, Evan Stifle and Michael Vitucci, all of whom recorded times under the 16:00 minute mark. They were joined by Mason runners, Tom Clark, Nick Grismer and Zac Thompson, who also all placed under the 16:00 minute barrier. St. X was 3rd overall as a team, just 2 points out of winning overall.
Mason was 6th overall. Kings, Turpin, Colerain and Cooper were all there representing the local area as well.
