George Zahn, station director at WMKV radio, incorporates music and talk programs to entertain a wide variety of listeners.
Mason residents will now be able to hear big-band and old-time radio programs from nostalgia station WMKV-FM (89.3).
The stronger signal is the result of a three -year “management agreement” by the Lakota Board of Education to turn over operation of WLHS-FM (89.9) to WMKV-FM at Maple Knoll Village in Springdale.
The school district had operated WLHS-FM for 33 years.
The WLHS-FM signal will extend WMKV-FM’s reach to West Chester and Liberty townships and Mason — areas not reached by WMKV-FM’s Reading Tower, said George Zahn, WMKV-FM station manager.
WMKV-FM staffers will help Lakota start an Internet radio station, which could reach a much larger audience and offer internships to Lakota students.
WMKV-FM should be operating the station by Aug. 1, said Zahn.
