The No. 2 seed Kings Knights fought off Nov. 7 Harrison to advance to the second round in Friday nights Division II Region 8 first-round playoffs.
The win improves Kings record to 11-0; the Knights will play Turpin at a site to be determined next Friday.
Enquirer contributor Kevin Goheen has the play-by-play action from tonight’s game:
Kings junior kicker Evan Berg didn’t want to let his senior teammates down. He had missed a 33-yard field goal attempt just before the end of the first half in Friday night’s Division II Region 8 first-round playoff game against Harrison but that miss was the farthest thing from his thoughts as he lined up for a 31-yard attempt with 4:11 remaining.
“I overdid the first one because of the wind,” said Berg. “When I went out for the second one, I was just thinking about the seniors.”
Berg cleanly drilled the field goal and the Kings defense made it stand up through two more possessions.
Harrison had its seven-game winning streak come to an end and finishes its season 7-4. The Wildcats hadn’t lost a game since falling to Kings 30-14 in Week 3.
