Showers this morning, colder temps coming

Posted by rrichardson April 17th, 2013, 8:48 am Post a Comment

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

Rain showers and a bit of dense fog are hovering over Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky this morning.

It’s 59 degrees with a lunchtime temperature of 70 expected. Later this afternoon, the mercury should top out around 76 degrees under mostly cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The rain should move out by 10 a.m., but there will be slight chances for spotty showers throughout the day.

Tonight will be cloudy with a low of 64.  The sun will return Thursday with a high temperature expected to soar to 81 degrees. It will be breezy with gusts as high as 34 mph.

A strong cold front will move through the region Thursday night into Friday morning. Strong winds may accompany showers and thunderstorms that develop along with the front.

The overnight low Thursday will slip to 52 degrees – and that will be close to the high temperature on Friday, which will only climb one degree higher.

There’s a 100 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms. Winds will remain brisk and could blow up to 33 mph.  Friday night, the temperature will tumble into the mid-30s.

The weekend looks sunny but cool. Daytime highs will be well below normal for this time of year: in the low 50s and 60s.  Overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s.

Storms with high winds, hail in forecast

Posted by rrichardson April 11th, 2013, 8:56 am Post a Comment

Jennifer Edwards Baker:

Light rain is moving from the west into Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

It’s the calm before the storm this morning with a temperature of 69 degrees in downtown Cincinnati.

There’s an 80 percent for showers and thunderstorms today. We could see severe and possibly dangerous storms with winds whipping more than 60 mph and quarter-size hail, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The possibility of tornadoes developing is slight, but it cannot be ruled out, said meteorologist Jeff Sites.

“I do not see a big tornado threat,” he said this morning.

This is the same storm system that wreaked havoc across parts of the Midwest on Tuesday, producing strong winds and a possible tornado in St. Louis County, Missouri.

Posted by rrichardson April 8th, 2013, 8:02 am Post a Comment

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

A warm but wet week is ahead as spring-like weather finally sticks around Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

It’s 53 degrees under cloudy skies in downtown Cincinnati this morning. There’s a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. It will be windy at times with gusts up to 31 mph.

Chance of showers for Opening Day

Posted by rrichardson April 1st, 2013, 8:32 am Post a Comment

Cindy Schroeder reports:

Opening Day in Cincinnati will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of morning showers.

“We’ve had worse weather on Opening Day,” said meteorologist Don Hughes with the National Weather Service in Wilmington. “I remember it snowing on Opening Day several years ago.”

Monday, the best chance to see rain will be in the morning. For the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade at noon, the forecast calls for a temperature of 45 degrees. Temperatures will peak at 47.

Throughout the day, there will be a 20 percent chance of rain showers, according to the National Weather Service.

“There will be some sun,” Hughes said. “But unfortunately, there’s going to be enough moisture around that I think we’ll see more clouds in the afternoon than we’d like.”

Monday night, the temperature is expected to drop into the 30s, but that should be well after the game ends.

Temps start 3-day run at near-60 degree highs

Posted by rrichardson March 29th, 2013, 8:47 am Post a Comment

Bowdeya Tweh reports:

Winter weather appears to be releasing its grip on the region this weekend, but don’t expect warm temperatures to last until Monday for the Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day.

The high temperature in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area should be near 60 degrees this afternoon through Sunday, said Myron Padgett, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington. But, he said the chances of precipitation between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon are at 80 percent.

Thunderstorms are also possible both days and the low temperature Saturday could be about 44 degrees.

People planning on heading outdoors to enjoy Opening Day should expect chillier weather as the high temperature may reach 45 degrees, Padgett said. The chance of rain is at 30 percent and the low temperature Monday could be about 26 degrees.

Posted by rrichardson March 28th, 2013, 7:49 am Post a Comment

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

We are finally going to enjoy some spring-like weather as the Easter weekend begins.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high of 48 degrees. That’s still a good 10 degrees below our normal temperature this time of year, but after weeks of below-normal figures and snow, it’s a welcome change.

We’re off to a frigid start this morning with 27 degrees being registered at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Overnight lows will remain in the 20s and 30s through early next week, but our daytime highs will push into the upper 50s Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Expect mostly sun Friday and Saturday. In fact, Saturday will be the best day of the week with a high near 60.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm will develop after 2 a.m. Easter Sunday and continue throughout the holiday. There’s 80 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms until 5 p.m. The high will reach 57.

Region under flood watch as rain lingers

Posted by rrichardson March 18th, 2013, 8:46 am Post a Comment

Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:

A flood watch is up across the entire Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region until 8 p.m.

Anywhere from 1-2 inches of widespread rain could soak us by tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Flooding could develop on roads and rivers and creeks because the ground already is saturated from recent rainfall and melting snow.

Standing water on roads and the heavy rain already has lead to several accidents. Authorities closed westbound Interstate 74 at the Harrison/Rybolt Road exit in Green Township for about 30 minutes earlier this morning due to a crash with injuries. Another crash, involving two vehicles and a school bus, is slowing the commute on westbound I-275 in Springdale.

It’s 35 degrees this morning at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Later, the mercury will rise to 55 degrees, much closer to normal for this time of year.

The rain should taper off by 8 p.m. A leftover shower or two could fall overnight. The low will fall to 30.

We’ll get the sun back the rest of the week, but daytime temperatures will be in the upper 30s and low 40s, well below normal.

Overnight lows will plunge to the low 20s.  Typically at this point in March, daytime highs hit 54 with overnight lows around 34.

It will be breezy Tuesday and Wednesday with winds blowing 16 to 20 mph.  There’s a 20 percent chance for snow showers Wednesday.
