Power of a flower is cancer fundraiser

Posted by rrichardson May 6th, 2011, 11:15 am Post a Comment

The Knock Out Rose will be the centerpiece in a Knock Out Cancer event this weekend.

This rose has become a symbol for two local Relay for Life teams as they race to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s fight to knock out cancer. The team will host Knock Out Cancer at Natorp’s Garden Stores at both the Mason and Florence locations on Saturday and Sunday.

The two teams hope to attract hundreds of men and women to support the cause. The event is open to the public and funds will be raised through food sales, donations and sales of the popular Knock Out Rose.

Natorp’s has agreed to donate $5 for each Knock Out Rose sold during the two-day event.

This is the second annual Knock Out Cancer held at Natorp’s Garden Stores. The concept was created by West Chester resident and a Relay for Life participant, Brandy Reardon.

Reardon became involved with Relay for Life after several family members were diagnosed, including her own mother, Pam Horton, a cancer survivor.

Relay for Life is an all-night walk to raise funds and awareness of cancer research.  This year’s event is set for May 14-15 at the Warren County Fairgrounds.

Natorp’s Mason store is at 5373 Merten Drive.  For more information on the event and the Knock Out Rose, visit www.natorp.com.

Mason garden center teams up to “knock out” cancer

Posted by rrichardson April 29th, 2011, 2:39 pm Post a Comment

Knock Out Rose A Mason garden center is helping local volunteers “knock out” cancer.

Brandy Reardon of West Chester approached Natorp’s Garden Center with an idea of using the popular Knock Out rose to help raise funds for her Relay for Life team’s KnockOut Cancer campaign.

Relay for Life is an all-night walk to raise funds and awareness of cancer research.  This year’s event is set for May 14-15 at the Warren County Fairgrounds.

When the Natorp family heard the personal story of Reardon’s mother’s battle with cancer, they enthusiastically joined forces.

“We felt, as a company, that Mrs. Reardon’s idea was one that people would embrace it is a beautiful way to contribute to a great cause”, said President Kyle Natorp.

Local Relay for Life volunteers are distributing coupons for Knock Out roses.  When redeemed at Natorp’s Garden Stores in Mason or Florence, the company will donate $5 to the American Cancer Society on behalf of two local teams.

For more information on the KnockOut Cancer campaign, call 513-398-4769 or go to the team’s website at http://tinyurl.com/3to4u97.
