Mason festival spotlights craft beer

Posted by rrichardson May 13th, 2013, 8:00 am Post a Comment

Craft beer lovers are in for a treat as Whole Foods Market Mason kicks off its first Craft Beer and Food Festival Saturday.

Dozens of craft beer breweries will on-hand offering 90 samplings at the outdoor event, set for 3-9 p.m. at 5805 Deerfield Blvd. The event also includes food pairings by 29 local restaurants and live entertainment.

Rising sales and local interest in craft beers prompted the festival, said Jessi Mirick, a backup buyer at Whole Foods Market Mason.

The store stocks more than 100 craft beers, many local, throughout the year, she said.

“The craft beer scene is really hip and we’re trying to get more attention to it north of Cincinnati,” she said. “A lot of grocery stores are hesitant to get into the market because it’s still such a small market, but it’s been growing exponentially up here.”

Proceeds from the event benefit Shared Harvest and the Mason Food Pantry. The nonprofit organizations have had a long partnership with Whole Foods Market Mason, said Mason Food Pantry Director Gina Brown.

“We go to Whole Foods Market Mason twice a week for donations, like organic fruits and vegetables. They’re very community-driven. It’s an incredible partnership,” she said.

Tickets are $20 in advance and include admission and 20 food and beverage tickets. Purchase tickets online at www.wepay.com/events/wfmbeerfestival or at the store. Tickets are $25 the day of the event.

The Mason Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to assist with clean-up and service. Volunteers must be 21 and older. For more information, call Brown at 513-535-0885 or email ginabrown@masonfoodpantry.org.

Posted by rrichardson September 22nd, 2012, 12:47 pm Post a Comment

PanerathonSue Kiesewetter reports:

Those who take part in the Panerathon 5K on Sunday won’t just be exercising.

Participants will be raising money to feed families.

Proceeds from the fifth annual walk and run event will go to the Shared Harvest Foodbank in Fairfield and the Mason Food Pantry.

“Everyone knows someone – family, friends, neighbors – affected by our struggling economy,” said Tina Osso, Shared Harvest’s executive director. “Every dollar raised in the Panerathon will help us provide eight meals for families in need right here at home.”

The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Deerfield Towne Center Panera Bread, 5095 Deerfield Blvd. It will be followed at 10 a.m. by a free Kids Fun Run for children ages 10 and younger.

The cost is $30 for adults ages 18-59 and $25 for children ages 11-18, adults ages 60 and older, and members of the military. There is a $5 discount for those who register by Sept. 20.

Participants receive an event t-shirt, timing chip and good bag on race day. Panera gift cards and Sketchers athletic shoes are presented to the top men and women finishers. Kids Fun Run participants receive race bibs and medals.

Race packets can be picked up beginning at 7:30 a.m. race day.

Following the race, participants will munch on bagels, pastries and sandwiches from Panera Bread. There will also be on-site entertainment provided by Q-102 as well as activities for children and families.

“Panera Bread is committed to supporting our local communities and the fight against hunger,’’ said Craig Flom, president of Breads of the World LLC, franchise of Panera Bread.

Registration forms are available at the store or participants can register online or download forms at www.panerathon.com.
