For World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, volunteers and staff from the Shalom Center for Elder Abuse Prevention in Mason visited local emergency rooms and rescue squads to spread awareness about elder abuse prevention.
They handed out baked goods and information about elder abuse prevention. The materials included purple bracelets that say: “Shalom Center. Break the silence.”
The Shalom Center, part of Cedar Village Retirement Community, became the first elder abuse shelter in Ohio when it opened in January
A Warren County retirement home plans to open the first elder abuse shelter in Ohio and one of the first in the nation at Cedar Village Retirement Center, on Cedar Village Drive off Western Row Road in Mason, said Elliot Grossman, agency spokesman.
The facility serves seniors in Hamilton, Butler, Clermont and Warren counties.
